Technothlon comprises two main stages: Prelims and Mains.

• Prelims (Written Round):
  • Conducted offline in designated exam centers across India (and possibly international locations).
  • Format: Typically, a 2-hour paper consisting of logical reasoning, mathematics puzzles, comprehension-based tasks, and creative problem-solving questions.
  • Team-based: Both students share a single question paper and submit one answer sheet.
• Mains (On-site at IIT Guwahati):
  • The top-performing teams from Prelims (each category) are invited to IIT Guwahati during Techniche for the Mains round.
  • Format: Interactive events, live problem-solving, puzzle-based tasks, possibly lab or coding exercises, or design challenges.
  • Winners are declared based on performance in these on-campus tasks.
• Additional Notes: The Mains round is an immersive experience—teams get exposure to the IIT environment, workshops, guest lectures, and final competitions.

• Technothlon does not adhere to a rigid, class-specific syllabus. Instead, it emphasizes:
  • Logic & Reasoning: Puzzles, ciphers, pattern recognition, lateral thinking.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Application-based problems, elementary arithmetic, algebra, combinatorics, geometry (but typically at or slightly above the standard school level).
  • Analytical & Creative Problem-Solving: Scenario-based questions requiring ingenuity, strategy, and multi-step reasoning.
  • Teamwork: Both students in a team collaborate to tackle tasks efficiently.
• Note: Because of its puzzle-based nature, the best “preparation” is practice with past Technothlon papers, logical reasoning puzzles, math Olympiad-style problems, and creative thinking exercises.

• Online Registration:
  • Teams of 2 students from the same school must register online at the Technothlon official website.
  • A nominal registration fee per team is charged (varies yearly).
• Offline / School-based:
  • Sometimes a school can coordinate mass registration for multiple teams.
  • Payment and forms are submitted collectively.
• Admit Cards:
  • Generated online after registration closes.
  • Teams carry the printed admit card on the Prelims exam day.
